Yunesky Maya Starts for the Potomac Nationals

Cuban pitcher made his stop to Woodbridge en route to the major leagues.

Cuban pitcher Yunesky Maya made his Woodbridge debut yesterday evening at the finale of the Potomac Nationals three-game series against the Winston-Salem Dash.

The Nationals lost the game after a grand comeback was cut short by an out at home plate, 9-8, and the series 2-1.

In light of recent Washington Nationals major league news concerning star pitcher Stephen Strasburg the focus is on the Potomac Nationals as they introduced Maya.

Maya started off the afternoon game pitching, and allowed six runs to eke through until he was pulled out in the fourth inning. Maya made a brief return to the game in the fifth, where he pitched to two runners.

A blister on Maya's hand may have contributed to his early retirement from the game.

Lately there has been much buzz surrounding Maya, as he recently signed a contract with the Washington Nationals. According to the major league team's website, Maya will pitch for another Double or Triple-A team before joining the major league Washington Nationals Sept. 1.

Despite the talk of Maya's debut, the P-Nats struggled to catch the Dash and were behind for the majority of the game. In the fourth inning, the team seemed to make a comeback after scoring four runs by Jose Lozada, Francisco Soriano, Chris Curran and Jamar Walton.

The Potomac Nationals will start another three-game series at home tomorrow against Wilmington.
