Bellevue City Council Approves 3rd Round Of Grant Funding

Council members voted this week to allot more federal CARES Act funds for rental assistance food programs and behavioral health.

BELLEVUE, WA — The Bellevue City Council this week approved nearly $900,000 to fund a third round of community grants using money from the CARES Act. The latest boost increases financial aid to several organizations that provide help with rent, food insecurity and behavioral health.

"Priority needs in the community were determined through stakeholder outreach," city officials wrote in a news release. "A public hearing was also held after the Human Services Commission had formed their initial funding recommendations."

According to the city, the commission received 15 applications which together sought double the amount of available funding. Ultimately, officials settled on the following allotment:

Rental Assistance

  • Centro Cultural Mexicano: $150,000
  • Hopelink: $100,000
  • India Association of Western WA: $150,000
  • YMCA of Greater Seattle: $200,287

Food Assistance

  • Congregations for the Homeless: $75,000
  • YMCA of Greater Seattle: $100,000

Behavioral Health

  • Congregations for the Homeless: $72,000
  • India Association of Western WA: $50,000

The council will need to take a final vote next month before the funds are available.
