Bellevue's Police Chief Is Leaving For Ohio
Steve Mylett is leaving the police department after six years in Bellevue to become the police chief in Akron, Ohio.

BELLEVUE, WA — Bellevue will soon begin a nationwide search for a new police chief after Steve Mylett announced plans to leave his post for a new job in Ohio, city officials announced Thursday. Mylett has served as Bellevue's police chief since 2015, having previously been a police chief in Southlake, Texas, and more than two decades with Corpus Christi police before that.
"While I'm personally happy for him, I was also disappointed to learn that Police Chief Steve Mylett will be leaving the City of Bellevue," said Bellevue City Manager Brad Miyake. "Steve has done an outstanding job leading the department over the last six years during an unexpectedly turbulent and transformative time. His dedication to public service, community outreach, staffing recruitment and crime reduction efforts have enhanced Bellevue's reputation as a safe and thriving community. I wish him and his family the best as he transitions to a new city."
Mylett will begin his new role as chief in Akron, Ohio on Aug. 9. Miyake will lead the search for his replacement, and an interim police chief will be announced within a few days, the city said.
