A public memorial service for Max and Bill Henningsgaard will be at 1 p.m. Friday Aug. 16 at the First Presbyterian Church in Bellevue, 1717 Bellevue Way NE, according to Eastside Pathways.

Eastside Pathways asks that those who attend carpool to the church.

Max Henningsgaard, 17, and his father, Bill, were on a tour of East Coast colleges in their Rockwell International Turbo Commander 690B when the small plane crashed into two homes on the ground in East Haven, CT, last Friday.

They were the only two on the plane, but two children, Sade Brantley, 13 and Madisyn Mitchell, 1, identified by the New Haven Register, were in their home and died when the plane crashed. Their mother, Joann Mitchell, escaped the home.

Bill Henningsgaard was a longtime philanthropist after his retirement from Microsoft, and those involved in his latest project, Eastside Pathways, told Patch that they hope to continue the group's work on education issues. The group was formed to coordinate efforts to bridge the achievement gap with local nonprofits and government agencies. He and Max are survived by wife and mother, Susan Sullivan, and two other children, Eleanor and Lucy.

Eastside Pathways posted the following ways to remember Bill and Max Henningsgaard:

  • For Max, donations can be made to Camp Kiwanilong, located in Warrenton, Oregon.  It was a special place for Max for many years.  He leaves behind many memories and friends.
