Two Big I-405 Closures Start This Weekend

Crews working on the Eastlink project will soon remove framework for a bridge that crosses I-405 in downtown Bellevue.

BELLEVUE, WA — Drivers should prepare for some major I-405 lane closures coming up over the next two weekends. These closures will differ from other recent closures because the main I-405 lanes will be shut down during daylight hours.

Sound Transit contractors will be removing steel framework around the light rail bridge that spans I-405 near Northeast 6th Street. The work will take place over the Aug. 9 and Aug. 16 weekends from Friday night to early Monday morning.

Southbound I-405, Aug. 9th at 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Aug. 12

  • From Friday night to late Saturday night, the southbound I-405 ramps leading to downtown Bellevue will be closed. Traffic will need to use ramp detour routes during this time.
  • From Saturday at midnight to Monday at 5 a.m., southbound mainline lanes will be closed. To minimize impacts to drivers, southbound I-405 traffic will need to use the collector-distributor road at exit 13B as a bypass route during this time.

Northbound I-405, Aug. 16 at 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Aug. 19

  • From Friday night to late Saturday night, the northbound I-405 ramps leading into downtown Bellevue will be closed. Traffic will need to use ramp detour routes during this time.
  • From Saturday at midnight to Monday at 5 a.m., the northbound mainline lanes will be closed. To minimize impacts to drivers, northbound I-405 traffic will need to use the collector-distributor road at exit 13B as a bypass route during this time.
