Seattle-Area Protesters To Decry War With Iran

The Seattle-area rallies are among hundreds organized around the country by liberal advocacy groups MoveOn and Indivisible.

SEATTLE, WA — Protesters are expected to take to the streets around the Seattle area Thursday evening to rally against the possibility of the U.S. entering into a war with Iran.

The rallies come days after the U.S. airstrike in Baghdad that killed Iranian Major General Qasem Soleimani. In retaliation Iran attacked two U.S. military bases in Iraq.

Liberal advocacy groups MoveOn and Indivisible are behind the war protests around Seattle and throughout the country. As of Wednesday afternoon, 291 protests had been organized, according to the rally's website.

"Trump's reckless action has needlessly endangered countless lives of U.S. troops, Iraqis, Iranians, and countless other civilians," organizers wrote on their website. "The devastation that a war with Iran could bring upon the earth and humanity cannot be overstated—millions of lives hang in the balance."

Protesters will meet Thursday at 5 p.m. at sites including Issaquah, Bothell, Bainbridge Island, Everett, North Seattle and West Seattle. Rally organizers are using the hashtag #NoWarWithIran.
