T-Mobile CEO Plans To Step Down In 2020
John Legere announced he would leave the company next year, even as a planned merger with Sprint remains unfinished.

BELLEVUE, WA — Bellevue-based T-Mobile will have a new CEO next year after John Legere announced plans to leave the job when his contract expires in May. The Associated Press reports the wireless carrier's current president, Mike Sievert, will take over the top job. The shake-up comes as T-Mobile continues a long-running effort to merge with Sprint in a $26.5 billion deal.
I’ve got some important news! On May 1, I’ll be handing the magenta CEO reigns over to @SievertMike as my successor. This move has been under development for a long time and I couldn’t be more confident in the future of @TMobile under his leadership.

Regulators approved the deal in July, despite concerns that customers could see higher prices and fewer options. Only three major cellphone companies will remain if the merger is finalized. The AP reports attorneys general in 15 states and Washington D.C. are seeking to block the acquisition. A trial is scheduled to begin in December.
Legere joined T-Mobile in 2012, quickly carving out a large following on social media. Last week, several reports suggested he was in talks to take over the embattled office company WeWork, but Legere denied those claims Monday.
