Wife of Serial Rape Suspect Moved His Car After His Arrest

The wife of a Seattle attorney accused in a series of rapes apparently moved his vehicle in the days after he was arrested, and police only found it weeks later after the wife’s lawyer told them where it was, according to media reports.

Jennifer Grant, who is also a lawyer, has now been reassigned to other responsibilities in the Seattle City Attorney’s Office.

The Seattle Times reported that Grant, the supervising assistant city prosecutor, was shifted to duties that “do not entail courtroom prosecutorial work.”

Grant’s husband, Danford Grant, faces seven charges of sexually assaulting five area massage therapists, including an attack in Bellevue and one in Shoreline.

“Although there has been absolutely no indication of an active criminal investigation, we felt it prudent to temporarily reassign her duties,” the city attorney’s office said in a statement Wednesday. “It is extremely important that we continue to maintain the appearance of integrity here at the Seattle City Attorney’s Office.”

According to search warrant documents obtained by KIRO-TV, Jennifer Grant moved her husband’s Honda Pilot from near the Seattle massage parlor where he was arrested and parked it about a mile from their Wedgwood home. Danford Grant’s attorney, Richard Hansen, told the station that she parked it away from their home because she was being “hounded by the media.” Hansen also said she took her husband’s office garage key card out of the car to use it to visit an attorney in the building.

The documents say nothing else was removed from the car. Police apparently were searching for packets of condoms and a knife used in one of the attacks, among other things.

Danford Grant has pleaded not guilty to all the charges. He was released on $1 million bail and is awaiting trial.
