Boston Marathon Runner From Kirkland Places In Top 50

Runners from around the world slogged through freezing rain Monday in the annual Boston Marathon.

KIRKLAND, WA - A Kirkland man was among the top 50 runners who competed in the Boston Marathon on Monday. Shaun Frandsen, 40, finished No. 49 with a total running time of about 2 hours and 34 minutes - that's an incredible pace of just under 6 minutes per mile.

Frandsen, who is originally from Spokane, is one of the top runners in the country and trains with the Club Northwest running team. Although Frandsen's performance in the Boston Marathon was incredible, it's not his best. He once ran a 2 hour and 28 minute marathon, and won the Seattle Marathon in 2014. In 2016, he placed second in the Portland Marathon.

Frandsen, a musician who fronted the band Glis for more than a decade, was the only "elite" runner in the marathon from Washington. Dozens of other runners from around Puget Sound competed in the marathon. You can see all the entrants at the Boston Athletic Association website.
