Kirkland Plans For August Opening At City Hall, Justice Center

Kirkland plans to reopen two city facilities in the first week of August for the first time since the pandemic forced closures in 2020.

KIRKLAND, WA — Kirkland City hall and the Kirkland Justice Center are scheduled to reopen Aug. 2, welcoming the public back for in-person services for the first time in nearly 16 months. City officials said opening the two facilities is part of the next phase in fully reopening Kirkland, which began last month with the reopening of community centers, resuming summer recreation programs and removing the moratorium on special events.

"We are thrilled with this forward momentum in the City's reopening process and cannot wait to welcome the public at City Hall and the Justice Center in person once again," said Kirkland Mayor Penny Sweet. "We appreciate everyone's patience as we worked to ensure the health and safety of our community members and staff by restricting the way we conduct city business."

Beginning in August, City Hall will be open on weekdays between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., restoring a host of in-person services, including battery and lightbulb recycling, utility payments, pet licensing, business licensing, permits and more. Officials said final guidance on face coverings would be available shortly before reopening day.
