UPDATE: Car Hits Kirkland House and Catches Fire, Injuring Three

UPDATE, 11:15 a.m. Thursday, March 22: Kirkland Police are investigating a crash Wednesday night in which a car caught fire after leaving the roadway and hitting a house in the 12300 block of 105th Place in Juanita, injuring three.

The crash occurred at about 10 p.m., according to a City of Kirkland press release, at a house on 105th Place just off NE 124th, a busy east/west arterial in Juanita.

Two people in the vehicle were taken by Kirkland Fire Department emergency personnel to , but their injuries were not life-threatening. A person who was in the house at the time of the crash was treated at the scene, apparently for minor injuries.

KOMO News quoted Kirkland Firefighter Mike Haschak as saying, "If this happened 100 times, I think 97 of those times you'd have fatalities. I don't know how we ended up not getting anybody seriously hurt on this. It's an incredible string of luck that nobody got hurt."

KOMO identified the homeowner, asleep at the time, as Carol Miller.

The Kirkland Police Department is investigating the crash, which totaled the vehicle and caused about $30,000 damage to the house.

Three people were injured late Wednesday night after a car apparently ran off the road and hit a house in Kirkland on NE 124th Street, causing extensive damage and then catching fire.

Details were sketchy Thursday morning, but a report on the Kirkland Firefighters Facebook page indicated emergency crews responded to the crash just before 11 p.m. Units arriving on the scene found a car in flames near the house; photos appear to show they used a foam fire retardant to put it out.

The car was a total loss and three people were taken to the hospital. The Kirkland Firefighters post said Kirkland Police are investigating.
