From The City of Kirkland:The City of Kirkland invites the community to honor the combined Kirkland American Little League (KALL) and Kirkland National Little League (KNLL) Softball at a rally on Sunday, August 5, at 5:00 p.m.at the Marina Park Pavilion, 25 Lakeshore Plaza Drive, Kirkland. The team won the District 9 Little League tournament, the Washington State Little League tournament and the West Regional Little League tournament in San Bernardino, California. They are now traveling to Portland, Oregon, to represent the U.S.A. West Region in the Little League Softball World Series tournament from August 8 through 15 against nine other teams from across the US and around the world.
“To have Kirkland’s team among the top nine teams in the world is an incredible achievement,” said Councilmember Penny Sweet. “These girls have demonstrated incredible talent and dedication, and I’m excited to celebrate with the community as they head to Portland for the World Series.”
The Little League Softball World Series is a softball tournament for girls aged 11 to 12 years old. It was first held in 1974 and is held every August in Portland, Oregon, in the United States. The tournament is played at Alpenrose Stadium, a private facility that used to be a dairy farm.
This tournament is different from the Juniors softball World Series that is held in Kirkland every year. The Juniors division is older (12-14 years old), and they play from a 43-foot pitching distance. The Little League / Majors division is a 40-foot pitching distance.
If this team wins, it will be the first time Kirkland has ever won a Little League Softball World Series. The last time a Kirkland softball team went to the Softball World Series was 2001.
