Five Kirkland Residents Beat Heat, Finish Boston Marathon

Five hardy souls from Kirkland endured high temperatures in the mid-80s on Monday to finish in the 116^th annual Boston Marathon.

Thousands of entrants didn’t run the race this year, possibly because of heat warnings issued ahead of time, according to The Associated Press. A total of 22,426 runners started the race, about 84 percent of the registered field of 26,716 entrants, The AP reported.
