Girl Scouts Love Bridle Trails State Park!

Bridle Trails State Park Hosts "Girl Scouts Love State Parks" Event

"Girl Scouts Love State Parks", a nationwide event, was held at Bridle Trails State Park on Saturday, July 13th. State Parks around the country welcomed Girl Scouts to explore the outdoors.

Troops from Bellevue, Auburn, and West Seattle attended the event at Bridle Trails. The Scouts were greeted by Park Ranger, Matt Birklid to learn about the Park and how the Bridle Trails Foundation and the Lake Washington Saddle Club also help support the Park.

The activity in the morning was spent learning about the flora and fauna of Bridle Trails State Park by going on a hike led by Park Foundation President, Kelly Gode and Jim Erkmann. After a break for lunch, the Scouts were led through a craft project making colorful bridle brow bands by Lake Washington Saddle Club board member, Caroline Callendar.

The afternoon experience was learning all about horses and horsemanship. The Girl Scouts were split into groups for the 3 equestrian stations: Grooming and Care, Horse Anatomy and Riding. Each station had horses for the girls to meet and interact with.

This was a unique and amazing educational opportunity for the Girl Scouts. Based on their smiles, the day was a success. They will certainly have the memories of this experience for a lifetime!
