KIRKLAND, WA — It's the last week of school in the Lake Washington School District, and that means students will soon be free for the summer. King County Metro has a special program this year for students to get free transit (ORCA cards) passes for the warmer months.

Students interested in an ORCA card just need to head here to get a form, and then submit it to the school office. The program is limited to students who meet the income guidelines.

After school lets out this week, students can still get a free ORCA card. But instead of bringing the form to the school office, it should be brought to the Lake Washington School District Resource Center, 16250 NE 74th Street, Redmond (hours are Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.).

Here's more on the program from the King County Metro:

Income-eligible high school students in Highline, Lake Washington, and Tukwila school districts can now get a FREE unlimited ORCA pass for the summer. Summer Youth ORCA Passes will be active from June 10th – September 9th 2019 and can be used to pay the full fare on all local transit agencies in the region except the Washington State Ferries. The program is open to high school students in Highline, Lake Washington, and Tukwila school districts who receive free or reduced price lunch and are participating in a summer activity that they need transportation to. ORCA cards are available for pick up at the student’s high school’s front office starting early June 2019.
