It's a Grind: Upcoming Paving Work in Kirkland

Paving of 108th Ave NE is wrapping up, but crews will be restoring a number of additional streets this summer and fall, beginning with State Street S.

Work to grind off the old paving begins Wednesday, Aug. 7, and as long as the weather holds, re-paving should be complete Aug. 12, followed by pavement markings and utility adjustments. 

The grind and overlay program prolongs the life of a street and saves money by improving the street surface before it reaches the final state when rapid deterioration occurs and full reconstruction is required, the city said in a press release.

Here's the approximate schedule for the upcoming work:                                                                                                            

1. 108th Ave NE from NE 53rd St W to NE 68th St                              Complete August 6
2. State St S from 5th Ave S to Kirkland Ave                                       August 7 – Aug 20
3. NE 116th St from 98th Ave NE to 108th Ave NE                             August/September
4. 97th Ave NE from Juanita Drive to NE 119th Way                           August/September
5. NE 132nd St from 124th Ave NE to 132nd Ave NE                         September/October
6. NE 145th St from 100th Ave NE to Juanita-Wood. Way NE            September/October
7. Simonds Rd NE from 92nd Ave NE to 100th Ave NE                     September/October

Thanks to the Street Levy voted in by residents in 2012, the City is able to double the number of arterial streets to be paved each year, the city said. 

Specific schedule information for each street will be posted and updated periodically on the City’s website www.kirklandwa.gov (search Street Preservation).  It is possible that construction schedules change due to weather conditions.  Typical hours of operation are Monday-Friday 7:00 am to 6:00 pm.  Two lanes of traffic will be maintained prior to 9:00 am and after 3:30 pm.
