John Muir Elementary Planning Cupcake Bash Grand Opening Tonight

The school is pairing the celebration with a literacy night and book fair, and celebrating Dr. Seuss' birthday.

Muir Elementary will celebrate its grand opening tonight, including an official ribbon cutting at 5 p.m. followed by the biggest cupcake party around.

Since they are pairing it with their annual Literacy Night, they are celebrating with 1.000 cupcakes in the shape of The Cat in the Hat! (See the photo just labeled cupcakes.)

The mastermind of the cupcake bonanza was Buzz Anderson, husband of Muir’s school secretary, Gail Anderson, said Lake Washington School District spokeswoman Kathryn Reith.

In addition to Buzz, Debra Tipple, Gail Anderson, Lynn Kennedy, Jennifer Whalen, Jennifer Landick, Debbie Loeffler, Cynthia Cantwell (seven staff members) and David Cantwell helped out. Buzz is a broadcast radio engineer who just took this up as a hobby about ten years ago. He’s wanted to do a large-scale cupcake decorating project and this was just right.

The school was recently reconstructed, and built “green” reflecting the beliefs of the naturalist John Muir.
