Kirkland Distributing More Relief Funds For Small Businesses

This month, Kirkland will begin sending more $5,000 grants to small businesses and nonprofits, funded by the CARES Act.

KIRKLAND, WA — Kirkland will distribute a second round of small business grants in October, aiming to fund all who are eligible for relief. The program will provide $5,000 to small businesses and nonprofits that were negatively affected by the coronavirus pandemic between April 1 and June 30.

According to the city, it received more than 280 applications between August and September. While the program, funded by the CARES Act, initially aimed to provide money for 150 businesses, officials hope to meet the increased demand.

"These grants are an important investment in or Kirkland economy, and the City Council is pleased that we could allocate additional funding toward supporting our local businesses," Mayor Penny Sweet wrote in a statement. "The grant program is another step in a series of actions to address immediate financial challenges our small businesses are facing during this pandemic."
