Kirkland Girls Eliminated From Softball World Series

KIRKLAND, WA - The Kirkland Majors Girls Softball Team's incredible season ended in a 10-1 loss Monday at the Little League World Series in Portland. But the Kirkland team can still claim to be among the best in the world.

Kirkland, representing the West, faced off against the Central team from Wheelsburg, Ohio, Monday in the quarterfinals. Kirkland made it to the world series after going 5-0 in the West Championships in San Bernadino, Calif., earlier this summer.

Kirkland made it to the quarterfinals after a 7-2 win over Canada on Sunday. The team beat the Czech Republic on Friday 15-0.

Along the way, the team pulled eye-popping victories over other Western states like Montana (21-0) and Alaska (15-1).

The team that went to Portland for the World Series was a combination of the Kirkland American Little League (KALL) and Kirkland National Little League (KNLL) teams. The last time a girls' softball team from Kirkland went to the World Series was in 2001.
