Kirkland Housing Survey Probes Needs Amid Construction Boom

From City of Kirkland: The City of Kirkland has launched an online survey to collect public input on housing issues in Kirkland. Responses from the survey will inform updates to the City’s Housing Strategy Plan. The survey can be accessed online and will be open until 5:00 p.m. on July 15, 2017.

“Kirkland’s experiencing an increased level of public and private construction,” said Deputy Mayor Jay Arnold. “This construction is part of the City’s Comprehensive Plan, it’s just happening quicker than anticipated. This survey is one way we’re trying to ensure that no voices get left behind in the conversation about housing needs in our community.”

The purpose of the Housing Strategy Plan is to identify a wide variety of tasks that the City might undertake over time to implement its Housing Goals and Policies. The currently adopted Housing Goals and Policies can be viewed in the 2017 Housing Strategy Plan Update PDF located online.

The City has historically had a Housing Strategy Plan, which is a component of the City’s Comprehensive Plan. The City Council updated the City’s Comprehensive Plan in 2015.

To help represent the diversity of housing needs for City residents in its Housing Strategy Plan, the City formed the Housing Strategy Advisory Group. Drawing its 12-15 members from various neighborhood associations, faith and school communities, businesses and commissions, the Housing Strategy Advisory Group was created by the City Council through the adoption of Resolution R-5246 at the March 7, 2017 Council Meeting.
