Kirkland Log Cabin to Take a Road Trip this Weekend

The log cabin that has recently recaptured attention in Kirkland will be moved early Sunday morning.

Under cover of night, early Sunday morning, April 28, a 1930s-era Kirkland log cabin will begin its journey to a new home.

The cabin is being moved to make way for two new homes on Market Street, and the biggest part of the job has been planned for early Sunday, between midnight and 5 a.m. to limit inconvenience to residents and businesses as it makes its way through downtown.

Kirkland resident John Kappler has a permit to move the structure, city officials said Wednesday, and a private party is locating the cabin on his property.

According to the route detailed to the city, Nickel Brothers Moving will take the structure roughly south along Market, 6th Street, and Waverly Way and east on Central Way, then north along 112th and 111th to a holding spot between midnight and 5:00 AM to until 9 a.m., when they will continue up 111th Ave NE and turn onto NE 100th Pl. to the site.

During the move, some streets will be marked with no parking signs. Buses don't run between those early hours on Sunday, the developer said.
