Kirkland Night Owls Could Glimpse Meteor Showers

If you're out stargazing this weekend, you could be in for a show.

The Lyrid meteor showers are supposed to peak Saturday and Sunday nights. (Yes, we know that technically it's nearly Sunday. Wish we'd known about this earlier to give you, and ourselves, more of a heads-up.)

Still, NASA says the meteor shower is expected to be active through April 25. Saturday's new moon means darker skies and better viewing, with 10-20 meteors per hour likely this weekend.

So if you're still up right now and reading this, take a peek outside. And you might try again Sunday night, too. You can also check out NASA's live chat for the next couple of hours, and their live video feed from a camera mounted at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala.
