Kirkland Ranked Washington's 2nd Safest Large City: Report
The website AdvisorSmith ranked Washington cities based on a new analysis of FBI crime data.
KIRKLAND, WA — A new analysis of annual FBI crime data ranks Kirkland as Washington's second-safest large city. The rankings, published Tuesday by AdvisorSmith, looked at the FBI's Uniform Crime Report for 2019 and assigned each city a "crime score" based on the rate of reported violent crimes and property crimes by population. The FBI compiles its data each year but a final report for 2020 is still in progress.
Overall scores were assigned based on the 2019 figures and weighted by the level of more serious or violent crimes, then adjusted based on population. Using that measure, AdvisorSmith also found Spokane was the Washington city with the most reported crime in 2019.
To compare each city, AdvisorSmith organized them into three groups: those with fewer than 10,000 residents, midsize cities with a population between 10,000 and 50,000, and large cities with more than 50,000 residents.
