Kirkland Welcomes 5 New Firefighters

The Kirkland Fire Department is five members stronger today, and another round of hiring is set to begin in just a few months.

KIRKLAND, WA — Kirkland added five new firefighters to its roster this week, wrapping up a recruitment round that began in 2020. The newest additions will officially begin in Kirkland in June, upon completion of their courses at the Washington State Fire Training Academy and EMT training.

The latest hires follow the voter approval of an emergency medical services levy in November, which will help Kirkland replenish its COVID-19 protective gear, hire at least 20 new firefighters, construct a new fire station and renovate several others.

According to the city's website, the next round of entry-level firefighter hiring begins in March, with a goal to add up to 25 new hires over the next three years. Those interested in joining can learn more online.
