KPD Blotter: Woman Arrested After Fires Set in Restroom

Other cases include a man who put spikes in a driveway to puncture his neighbor's tire, an Ebay scam and a pay phone smash-and-grab.

The following are selected reports from the Kirkland Police Department for the period of Feb 11-15. The reports do not indicate a conviction.

Feb. 11

  • A longstanding property line dispute between neighbors on Rose Hill’s 122nd Avenue took a nasty turn when one of them, a 66-year-old man, allegedly put two home-made, 10-inch metal spikes in what he claimed was his portion of a driveway. The neighbor, a 53-year-old man, drove over them and punctured a tire on his truck. The older man was cited for malicious mischief. The incident occurred between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m.
  • Some time between Feb. 5-11, unknown suspects stole the Yamaha outboard motor from the boat belonging to a 46-year-old male resident of 100th Avenue in north Juanita.


Feb. 12

  • After selling some jewelry on Ebay, a 63-year-old woman who lives on 93rd Lane in Juanita reported the buyer complained to the on-line company about the quality of the gold and was given his $350 back. The woman then received a package in the mail from the alleged buyer, and it was empty, she told police at about 1:30 p.m. Ebay began an investigation and asked for a police report.

  • Apparently caught on surveillance video around the time of three fires in the women’s restroom of the Rose Hill store, a 57-year-old woman who lives not far away on Rose Hill was arrested for first-degree arson. She allegedly used a disposable lighter to set fire to a toilet seat cover dispenser at about 1 p.m.

  • After a 56-year-old woman who lives on 60th Street in Houghton called police to report an apparent theft of drugs by her 16-year-old son, police got into a fight with a 21-year-old male resident of the house, possibly the 16-year-old’s brother, and arrested both of them. The 21-year-old was arrested for obstructing an officer and the 16-year-old, who was listed as living on Concrete, Wash., was found to have been reported missing and to have outstanding felony and misdemeanors warrants from other jurisdictions. This all played out from about 7:30 p.m. to almost midnight.
  • A 20-year Kirkland woman was arrested at or near in the Totem Lake area on an outstanding warrant from the city of SeaTac for loitering for prostitution and violating an order to stay out of areas known for prostitution. She was taken in at about 10:30 a.m. Police were called by a 62-year-old woman.
  • An unknown suspect busted open a pay phone at a convenience store on 98th Avenue in Juanita some time between Feb. 11-14 and stole about $200. The theft was reported by a 57-year-old male Frontier Communications employee, who told police damage to the phone would total about $150.


Feb. 15

  • After slapping in the face a fellow resident of Tent City at on 124th Street in Juanita, a 36-year-old woman was arrested for fourth-degree assault. The incident occurred during an argument and the victim was a 54-year-old man. A Tent City employee witnessed the slap, which happened at about 11:15 a.m.
