Friday, March 12 is a LEAP Day. This is a professional learning day for our staff. There is no school for students.

Updates for Grade 2-5 Return to In-Person Learning

As we prepare for the transition of grade 2-5 learning models, here are a few additional details for families:

  • School Hours: Grade 2-5 In-Person School Hours: School start times for our elementary students will be the same as their normal start time (See the full list of school start times here). The school day will be 3.5 hours, so school releases 3.5 hours after the start time.
  • Schedule: Below is a schedule for our students in grades 2-5. As a reminder, the five school days before the change in learning models are asynchronous days for students. (March 10, 11, 15, 16 and 17 for grades 2-3 and March 22-26 for grades 4-5). These days allow teachers time to plan for the transition to the new learning model.

  • Transportation for In-Person Students: For those grade 2-3 families who are eligible for transportation and indicated in the K-5 survey that they would be riding the bus, transportation will send families an email by March 17 to communicate bus stops and pick-up time/drop-off time. For those who rode the bus in prior years, you may notice that the pick-up times are earlier. This is due to the reduced number of students riding the bus. We expect at the beginning there will only be one bus per elementary school (no buses for all walking schools) thus the buses will be driving a larger area to pick up students. As we bring more students back to school for in-person learning, buses may be added if there are available drivers. See the answers to additional Frequently Asked Questions here. Grade 4-5 in-person families can expect to receive bus information by March 26.
  • Free Meals for In-Person Students: All students attending in-person classes will receive a free breakfast and lunch to take home each day upon dismissal. Please complete the meal survey in Skyward Family Access to indicate the type of meals that you prefer your student to receive, or if you want to opt-out of receiving free meals. Instructions for completing the survey can be found here | Español. If you do not complete the survey, your in-person student will automatically receive a main entrée meal (may contain meat) upon dismissal.

The survey will remain open for the remainder of the school year and you can change your response at any time (please allow 1-2 days for any changes to take effect).

Please help us remind students that the meals need to be taken home and should not be eaten at school or on the school bus.

  • Pathway Forward Videos: LWSD has created a series of videos to help families understand the basics of our Safety Plan for returning students to in-person learning. Videos are available in multiple languages on this page. We highly recommend that families review the videos prior to the return of students.
  • You can expect to receive additional information from your schools as they prepare to welcome you back to in-person learning."

    Thank you,
    Jon
