Find out what's happening in Kirklandfor free with the latest updates from Patch.
As we develop the in-person and remote model for secondary students, we aim to:
- Meet the needs of students at home and in-person
- Maintain relationships between students and teachers
- Maintain students’ schedules to the greatest extent possible
- Minimize the transition for teachers
The selected hybrid model includes the following components:
- Two days per week of in-person learning
- Students will be placed in an A, B or C group
- Students in the A group will attend in-person on Mondays and Tuesdays and remote Thursday and Friday
- Students in the B group will attend in-person on Thursdays and Fridays and remote Monday and Tuesday
- Students in the C group will attend remotely Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday

School Day Schedule includes the following components:
- In-person school day for middle school will be 5 hours and 15 minutes
- In-person school day for high school will be 5 hours and 35 minutes
- School start times will move back to standard school start times for all secondary schools
- Lunch will be planned into the school schedule
Additional information will be shared next week about instruction for remote and in-person hybrid students and other processes/procedures related to secondary students.
Process to finalize selected model:
Over the last week, a team reviewed information from the Summer/Fall Return to School Task Force work related to learning models. Additionally, this team did a search for other innovative models that would help inform the final decision for Lake Washington. Ultimately, the team selected 3-4 models to fully evaluate against the unique conditions in Lake Washington and against our stated criteria for students and staff this spring. Information about planning efforts and a review of learning models was presented at the last school board meeting during the Superintendent’s Report.
Bargaining Update:
We are actively negotiating the working conditions related to our secondary return to in-person learning. We anticipate our work will be completed next week.
Future Updates:
We are currently working through plans and negotiations in anticipation that additional changes in expectations or guidance may come from the state."
Thank you,
Jon
