Le Grand Bistro Wins Mother's Day Brunch Poll

We’ve never experienced brunch at either, but have dined at both and several times and enjoyed every bite, every minute.

Last time we went to Le Grand, was working the kitchen like a calm captain at the helm, and we sat at the bar next to the oyster-shucking table for happy hour. It was one of those experiences you don’t forget. A friendly couple sat down next to us -- turns out she is also a former newspaper reporter and he a native of Chelan, where I have spent many days, and we ended up chatting about mutual acquaintances on both sides of the Cascade Range.

They oysters on the half shell were out of this world, Kumamotos or Penn Cove, I can’t recall for sure, exquisitely enjoyed with a pichet of Tassarolo Gavi.

And Trellis, what can you say? Actually, I could go on and on. Suffice it to say ’s touch is golden, and the hanging tender steak and eggs is a dish to be highly recommended.

This is a long-winded way of saying we are not surprised in the least that the top two restaurants in this week’s were, No. 1,  Le Grand and No. 2, Trellis.

Le Grand finished the week with just two more votes than Trellis, but also with a sterling review. “Best French food on the Eastside maybe in Seattle,” wrote Chris Bostwick.

So congratulations Le Grand Bistro, may the winds of Lake Washington whirl gently by your windows eternally!

Congratulations as well to Trellis, may you warm the hearts and palates of Kirkland until the hills crumble and the lake rises beyond!
