Moving Sale: Woodinville Lions Club Selling Community Center Property

Officials with the Woodinville Lions say they have sold the Mountainview Community Center-- originally built by the Kirkland Fire Department in 1941 and later moved to Woodinville--and are holding a moving sale on the property on Saturday, April 20.

The Woodinville Lions Club has accepted an offer to buy the Lions Club property, formerly the Mountain View Community Center, according to the club's secretary, Herb Cartmell.

The building was built in 1941 by the Kirkland Fire Department, Cartmell said, and it was moved to its present location on the property in the early 1960s.

Cartmell said the decision to sell was a difficult one for the club.

"The costs of keeping the building up just did not match any revenue it brought in," Cartmell said. "In short we could no longer maintain it. I am sure it will be missed by all those that have used the building for meetings over the years, but the Woodinville Lions club will continue to serve Woodinville and will now be meeting as a noon club."

A moving sale at the property will be held Saturday, April 20.

The building has a storied history. In addition to holding Lions meetings there, the facility has been home to the Boy Scouts, the 4-H Horse & Pigeon Club, the SKI Pigeon Club, AAA, Knights of Columbus, and more, Cartmell said.

It has also housed the Sunshine Pre-School since 1966. After the original Mountain View group disbanded, the building and property was deeded over to the Woodinville Lions in April of 1975.

It also reportedly served as a Civil Defense meeting place during World War II.

The Woodinville Lions Club will still exist as a "noon time club," and members plan to hold meetings at a local restaurant starting in May.

A family has purchased the property and plans to build a home there, Cartmell said.
