New I-405 On-Ramp at NE 160th Open

WSDOT says drivers should allow a few extra minutes as people adjust to the new temporary on-ramp to northbound Interstate 405.

The Washington State Department of Transportation has confirmed that a new temporary on-ramp is open to traffic on Northbound Interstate 405 at NE 160th Street as of Monday morning, Sept. 9.

Drivers will enter northbound I-405 from Northeast 160th Street using a new, temporary on-ramp. We’ll close the current on-ramp until 2015 so that crews working for the Bellevue to Lynnwood Widening and Express Toll Lanes project can build a new braided ramp system that will improve traffic flow in this congested area.

The new ramps will separate NE 160th Street to northbound I-405 traffic from northbound I-405 to SR 522 traffic, providing more efficient access to both highways, WSDOT said in a news release.

You can learn more about this project and view a map of the new ramp location on DOT's blog or in its  flyer (pdf).

Drivers should allow a few extra minutes to familiarize themselves with the new configuration and expect some delays, especially during the first few weeks as people adjust to the change.
