No Serious Injuries After Wrong-Way Crash On I-405 In Kirkland

Washington State Patrol said a driver experiencing a mental crisis hit a barrier while driving the wrong way on Interstate 405 on Monday.

KIRKLAND, WA — A driver avoided serious injuries Monday morning after driving the wrong way on Interstate 405, then crashing into a concrete barrier near Totem Lake, according to Washington State Patrol. Trooper Rick Johnson said a man was driving northbound in the southbound lanes when he crashed his SUV into a barrier near Northeast 128th Street.

According to the Washington State Department of Transportation, the crash blocked the HOV lane and the nearby ramp shortly after 5 a.m.

Photos posted on social media showed heavy front-end damage to the vehicle, but Johnson said the man suffered no major injuries. According to WSP the man appeared to be having a mental crisis and was transported for an evaluation.
