Alderman Faces Primary; 4 Vie For School Board

A primary will be held Feb. 19 in the race for 1st District Oak Creek alderman, while two Oak Creek-Franklin School Board members also face challengers for their seats.

Incumbent Alderman Dan Jakubczyk faces challengers Shawn Vollmer and Steven Kurkowski, who filed the necessary paperwork to get on the ballot prior to the 5 p.m. Jan. 2 deadline.

The top two vote-getters in the primary will be on the ballot in the April 2 general election.

The 1st District encompasses the city's northeast side (See a map of the districts here). Jakubczyk was first elected in 2009 and re-elected in 2011 with 56 percent of the vote.

Meanwhile, no challengers emerged for Aldermen Jim Ruetz and Ken Gehl. Ruetz represents the 3rd District and was appointed to the seat last year after then-Alderman Steve Scaffidi was elected mayor. Gehl, the 5th District alderman, has served on the council since 2009.

On the Oak Creek-Franklin School Board, incumbents Frank Carini and Paul Mason and challengers Rosemarie Annonson and William McIntosh are running for two spots.

Carini, the school board president, was first elected in 2007, while Mason has been on the board since 2003.

School Board members are elected to three-year terms and receive $420 per month. Aldermen are elected to two-year terms at an annual salary of $7,200; the council president makes $8,400.
