“Our Christmas Market at the high school was a big success, and we are really excited about bringing our Spring Market back to this great setting,” said South Milwaukee City Clerk and market co-founder Jim Shelenske.
The Christmas Market, held in December, marked the first time the Downtown Market came to the high school, 801 15th Ave. A crowd estimated at more than 1,000 attended the event, held in the commons area and Heritage Hallway.

“I’m glad we can make this terrific venue available for the Spring Market,” South Milwaukee School Superintendent Rita Olson said. “This is a perfect example of the types of community partnerships we’re trying to forge here.”
The South Milwaukee PAC has a full day of entertainment planned, including appearances by student musicians.
Summer Market Starts May 23
The South Milwaukee Downtown Market will open its summer season on Thursday, May 23. The season will conclude Oct. 10. Markets will be held every Thursday during those dates (except July 4) from 3 to 7 p.m. on 11th Avenue south of Milwaukee Avenue.
“Our fifth outdoor season is going to be our best one yet,” said Market Chairman David Kieck, the former South Milwaukee mayor. “We have established ourselves as one of the top farmers’ markets in the area, and we’re proud to bring such a great event to downtown South Milwaukee every week.”
There are still vendor spaces available. Applications are available on the market website. Cost is $300 per stall for the entire season, or $25 per week.
About the South Milwaukee Downtown Market
Area residents looking for a unique shopping experience travel to downtown South Milwaukee, where they find an eclectic mix of merchants selling fresh fruits and vegetables, baked goods, flowers, art, jewelry and other local goods. They also find a sampling of area restaurants, live entertainment and special events as part of what is a true destination for families, foodies and everyone in between. It’s a simple yet ambitious vision – one that the South Milwaukee Downtown Market has achieved ever since it launched in July of 2009. Located on 11th and Milwaukee Avenues near the heart of the South Milwaukee city center, the Downtown Market has grown to become one of the largest in the area with dozens of regular vendors and hundreds of regular customers. It is operated by a committee of local residents, business owners and city and civic leaders that all have the same goal in mind: find new ways to breathe new life and instill new energy in downtown South Milwaukee.
