Fire, Police Personnel Can Receive COVID-19 Vaccine Next Week

OAK CREEK, IL – Police and fire personnel will be able to receive the COVID-19 vaccination next week, officials have announced.

The Wisconsin Department of Health Services announced Monday police and fire personnel will be eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine beginning Jan. 18.

According to the Department of Health Services, there are 1,098 organizations that are registered and available to distribute the COVID-19 vaccine across the state. Local health departments will lead the vaccination of police and fire personnel, as well as Emergency Medical Services and unaffiliated health care providers.

"Our goal is to get vaccine to everyone in Wisconsin who wants it as quickly and safely as possible," said DHS Secretary-designee Andrea Palm in the announcement. "Our systems are up and running, now we need more vaccine to get through as many Wiconsinites who want to protect themselves against COVID-19 as possible."

To date, Wisconsin has administered 151,502 vaccination doses to the 1A population – frontline health care workers and residents of long term care facilities. Across the state, there are 550,000 Wisconsin residents who qualify to receive the vaccine under Phase 1A.
