Mayor Dan Bukiewicz announced June to be LGBTQ+ Pride Month in Oak Creek at a Common Council meeting Tuesday.
OAK CREEK, WI — Mayor Dan Bukiewicz declared June 2021 to officially be LGBTQ+ Pride Month in Oak Creek at a Common Council meeting Tuesday.
Mayor Bukiewicz urged residents to recognize the contributions made by members of the LGBT community and to help promote principles of equality, liberty and justice, he stated in the proclamation.
The declaration from the Mayor further stated that young people deserve to feel valued, safe, empowered and supported by their community. The proclamation follows similar actions from Governor Tony Evers Tuesday.

Evers signed an executive order Tuesday ordering the rainbow pride flag to be flown over the State Capitol for the entirety of June. Evers further authorized government buildings across the state to do the same. 2021 is the third year that Evers has ordered the pride flag to be flown during June, a news release stated.
Governor Evers also signed an executive order directing cabinet agencies to use gender-neutral terms and pronouns in their external documents. Another executive order from Evers required multiple state agencies to ban any payments that could be used for conversion therapy, a news release stated.
