Oak Creek Elementary Schools Announce Totals And Winners Of Big Food Bowl Food Drive

The school broke its previous record, bringing in 21,543 items donated, with Edgewood School winning big at more than 7,800 items donated.

OAK CREEK - Oak Creek elementary schools announced the totals for its Big Food Bowl to stamp out hunger in the Oak Creek area, making 2017 its most successful year yet in the drive's four-year run.

A total of 21,543 food donations were collected by Oak Creek staff, students, and families, and will be donated to the food pantries at All Saints Lutheran Church, The Salvation Army, Oak Creek Community United Methodist Church, and Saint Stephen's Family Life Center, all in Oak Creek.

All seven Oak Creek public elementary schools participated in the drive, with Edgewood School being the winner and contributing more than a whopping one-third of the total with 7,862 donations. The second place winner was Deerfield School (pictured above).

Oak Creek schools also thanked GO Riteway, who donated four buses to transport the food, while bus drivers helped load and unload the donations, and Georgie Porgie's restaurant, who donated a free scoop of ice cream to all students from the winning school.

As Patch previously reported, the drive was held April 3-7 and the schools' tally was around 8,000 items on the third day of the drive, which was nearly tripled in the last two days to reach the record-breaking total.
