OAK CREEK, WI — A three-month old child has returned home to its parents, thanks to the life-saving efforts of an Oak Creek firefighter.

In a ceremony held in Oak Creek Friday, authorities recognized Firefighter/Paramedic Michael Wargolet for his quick-thinking and live-saving actions on Feb. 17.

According to the Oak Creek Fire Department, Wargolet was driving home when he and his wife saw people trying to get the attention of passing vehicles as they stood near their car parked in the emergency lane.

Fire officials said Wargolet wasn't working at the time, and pulled his family car to the side of the road to see what was wrong. When he got to the pulled-over vehicle, fire officials say he was handed a 3-month-old infant who was not breathing and did not have a pulse.

Oak Creek fire officials said Wargolet began a rapid assessment and began to perform CPR while his wife called 911. After two minutes of CPR, authorities say the infant regained a pulse, and began to breathe on its own. The Libertyville Fire Department then arrived on-scene and took over care of the infant.
