Oak Creek-Franklin District To Discuss Masks Monday
The Oak Creek-Franklin Joint School District Committee will discuss if masks should be required for summer programs at its meeting Monday.
OAK CREEK, WI — The Oak Creek-Franklin Joint School District Board of Education Committee will meet Monday to discuss if a mask mandate should remain for the district's summer programs.
Summer school programs for the Oak Creek-Franklin School District start June 21 and run for five weeks. Currently, around 1300 students are enrolled in various summer courses. An additional 300 summer campers are signed up f0r sports clubs and summer camps starting June 14. Over 100 staff members work over the summer to make these programs possible.
The Board of Education will determine Monday night if a mask mandate should stay in place for these summer programs. Students are still required to wear masks in schools in the Oak Creek-Franklin Joint District, following the 2020-2021 COVID-19 mitigation strategy, although occasional mask breaks- especially when eating or outside during recess- have been encouraged.

CDC guidelines have changed so that fully vaccinated people are no longer recommended to wear face-coverings in most scenarios. However, vaccination for COVID-19 has only been authorized for those as young as 12.
Public input forms on these decisions are due by 12 p.m. on Monday. Members of the public can submit a form that will be part of the public record for Monday's Board of Education meeting.

The Board of Education Committee will meet at 6 p.m. Monday, May 24, in the City of Oak Creek's Common Council Chambers at 8040 S 6th Street in Oak Creek.
The Board of Education may also publicly accept and honor a donation from Milwaukee Tool. The company donated nearly $30,000 worth of power and hand tools for the Oak Creek High School Construction Lab.
