With this recent donation, Oak Creek's VFW Post 8482 has now sent a total of $36,000 to the Honor Flight initiative, the Facebook post said. According to the organization's website, the donations go toward Honor Flight's mission of giving veterans thanks.

Honor Flight, a non-profit organization, helps to plan trips for veterans of World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War, the website said. Honor Flight sends veterans free of charge to tour the memorials dedicated to the very wars in which they served.

Even though these memorials were dedicated to these veterans, they don't often get the chance to experience them, according to Honor Flight. Honor Flight was founded with the mission of changing that, its website said. Over 7,500 veterans have benefited from the program.

"Thanks to all who donated to help us honor more veterans," the Facebook post from Honor Flight said.
