Oak Creek Wants Legislation To Allocate Water Costs

The Oak Creek Water and Sewer Utility wants legislation to establish how costs are distributed between water supplier and wholesale customer.

The utility feels "the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin's current rate-setting methodology does not allocate costs between the communities of Oak Creek, Franklin and Caledonia proportionately," according to a report to Common Council members.

Oak Creek has contested several PSC decisions, including one in October that resulted in a hang-up with a proposed contract between Oak Creek and Waukesha.

Contesting those cases have cost the utility "significant" money, General Manager Steve Yttri wrote in the report. (The PSC, for its part, has disagreed with Oak Creek's view on its decisions)

Legislation dictating how costs between supplier and customers are allocated would "effectively eliminate the majority of future contested rate case issues," Yttri said.

The council was scheduled to vote in its meeting Tuesday night on a resolution requesting legislation.
