Single Mom Says She Was Fired For 'Trump 2020' Facebook Comments

SOUTH MILWAUKEE, WI — A South Milwaukee single mother of a 3-year-old boy says she was fired from her job at a local dentists's office after she attended President Donald Trump's Jan. 14 rally in Milwaukee, and then posted pro-Trump comments on a Facebook post from a local news outlet which covered the rally.

"So, today I was fired from my job because I commented on a local news posting about people that were camping out last night for the Donald Trump rally," Robyn Polak, 35, wrote on her GoFund Me page. "I stated in my post, 'Make America Great Again,' and some people didn't like it."

Polak was a dental assistant at Precision Dental MKE, 6203 S. Howell Ave. Polak said someone went to her employer's Facebook page and posted a review, stating, "you shouldn't have racist people working there,” and “you should screen your potential employees before you have any racist people working there.”

Polak said her supervisor at the dentist's office called her the following morning and broke the news that she had been fired. "Because of this review , I am now fired from my job, because I dared to say, 'Make America Great Again' on a news outlet’s Facebook page."

She feels she was singled out online, and was wrongly terminated from her job. She is now seeking an attorney to probe the case for potential legal action. "My Facebook post to the news organization’s page was done on my time and in my home, not on work time and definitely not on work property. We need to make the public aware that this infringement on our freedom and liberty will not be tolerated," she said.

According to a CBS 58 report, Precision Dental issued a statement, going on to imply that Polak had, in fact, not been fired for her political expression: “Precision Dental MKE respects the privacy of its employees and, as a matter of policy, does not comment on the terms of employment, retention or discharge of any individual employee. We can confirm, however, that no employee has ever been terminated for their political beliefs or their support or opposition of the President or any political candidate."

Yet Polak said she cannot see how her political views did not factor into her own firing. "I'm just a normal American. I go to work. When I walk through those doors, I leave all that at the door. When I'm on my own, I support my president. That's my right," she told Patch.

Polak said she has taken out a GoFundMe page in order to help raise money to hire an attorney and to help with finances until she can find a new job. As of Thursday morning, Polak has raised $635 of her $10,000 goal on GoFundMe.

Polak's story has been picked up by news organizations across the U.S. She said she's been contacted by a number of people offering legal advice and even more seeking interview for a news report. "It's draining and people keep asking me questions. Last night, I went to bed at 5 a.m.," she told Patch.

In President Trump, Polak sees a role model of sorts — a person who, despite criticism, remains uniquely himself.

"Leaving the Trump rally I felt very positive. If he can stick his head out so far and get slammed left and right and keep on going fighting for the American people, then why can't I?" she told Patch.
