Oak Creek Beaches: Weather Service Issues High Swim Risk

The national weather service issued a "high swim risk" warning for Lake Michigan on Thursday or Friday. Oak Creek beaches are included.

OAK CREEK, WI— The National Weather Service reports a high risk of danger for Lake Michigan swimmers on Thursday and Friday, it said in a report.

The bulk of the Southeastern Wisconsin shoreline is included in the alert, which says there is a high risk of large, life-threatening waves. Swimmers are warned against entering the lake at all, especially near dangerous areas such as break walls and piers, the weather service said in the statement.

The warning comes amidst numerous reported drowning deaths in Lake Michigan, one being a 17-year-old Oak Creek High School student.

Oak Creek is included in the warning. Grant Park Beach, Lake Vista Park and Bender Park are all inside the high risk zone from the national weather service's surf report. Grant Park is mentioned as especially risky.
