Winners of Oak Creek Landscape Contest Named

Two businesses and three residential properties received awards for beautiful landscapes.

More than 100 nominations poured in for the first Mayor's Landscape Awards, but there could only be a few select winners.

After a six-person panel judged all entries, Mayor Steve Scaffidi announced the winners in both the business and residential category last week:

The Master Lock/Honeywell complex at 137 E. Forest Hill Ave. took top honors in the business category, with Springbook Cercle Apartments (8601 Springbook Blvd.) coming in second.

Winning first prize in the residential category, meanwhile, was Jim and Lauren Nommensen (901 E. Stonegate). Thomas Bauer (200 W. Fairfield Court) and Vic and Traci Seymour (731 Quail Court) were runners-up.

Scaffidi noted that all the winning homeowners do their own landscaping, as opposed to hiring the work out.

He added the contest showed how much great landscaping work is done in Oak Creek.

"It was a tough choice," he said.
