You Will Likely See Fire Or Smoke in Oak Creek Thursday

Oak Creek issued a notice about controlled burns happening Thursday.

OAK CREEK, WI— Oak Creek issued a notice about controlled burns happening Thursday.

The following sites are scheduled for prescribed burns:

• HWY 32 Cemetery (10870 S. Chicago Rd.) – prairie surround
• S. Shepard Avenue pond (Shepard Ave just North of Quail Run)
• Oak Creek Municipal Services Building (800 W. Puetz Rd.) – 3 ponds in back lot [If time permits]

At the time of each burn, visibility in the immediate area may be impaired due to smoke.

Members of the public are advised that smoke emanating from the burn area is not cause for alarm. However, for safety reasons, burn sites will be closed to the public for the duration of the burn.

Controlled burns are recommended to reduce the growth and spread of weedy, invasive and non-native plant species. By introducing fire as an ecological process, native species can be rejuvenated and ecological health is maximized.
