1. 11 schools, 53 hoops teams expected for Compete Casper Classic at WYO Sports Ranch, Ford Wyoming Center (oilcity.news) — High school basketball fans can catch 53 teams from 11 schools tipping off today at Casper’s new WYO Sports Ranch and the Ford Wyoming Center for the first-ever Compete Casper Classic. Running through Saturday, the tournament launches the Wyoming prep hoops season and is expected to bring a strong economic boost while showcasing Casper as a statewide sports destination.
   

2. Casper's Veeder pays it forward as Red Kettle Campaign volunteer (oilcity.news) — Casper residents are being asked to step up as Salvation Army bell ringers to support local programs like WyStepUp, which helps women leaving prison get back on their feet. Youth pastor and longtime beneficiary Jason Veeder now volunteers daily at the 2nd Street Walmart, and organizers say donations and volunteers directly fund food, housing and youth services in Casper year-round.
   

3. Ex-Bar Nunn Fire Chief Gets Suspended Sentence For Stealing From Charity Boot Drive (cowboystatedaily.com) — In Natrona County District Court in Casper, former Bar Nunn fire chief Robert Hoover received a suspended three-to-five-year prison sentence and probation for stealing from a 2024 Fill the Boot charity drive and misusing department funds. He must pay more than $10,800 in restitution, including money tied to a side-by-side whose value was later reviewed by a Casper firm.
   

4. Three Casper professionals top Wyoming Chamber of Commerce's 2025 'Forty Under 40' list (oilcity.news) — Three young professionals from Casper have been named to the Wyoming Chamber of Commerce’s 2025 “Forty Under 40” list, highlighting their leadership and community impact. They’re joined by standout peers from Douglas and across the state, representing industries from engineering and energy to nonprofits and public service, all recognized for strengthening Wyoming’s economic future.
   

5. Judy Simonton Catchpole (codyenterprise.com) — Casper is mourning longtime educator and former Wyoming Superintendent of Public Instruction Judy Simonton Catchpole, who passed away December 4 at Central Wyoming Hospice. A celebration of her life will be held January 5 at First United Methodist Church in Casper. Her obituary highlights decades of service on the Natrona County School Board, statewide education leadership, and deep involvement in local youth and community programs.
