Boy, Woman Hit By Cars In Separate Sonoma County Incidents: CHP

The boy was airlifted from the River Road overpass, while the woman was taken from Roberts Lake Road to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital.

SONOMA COUNTY, CA — An 11-year-old riding a bicycle north of Santa Rosa and a female pedestrian crossing a street near Rohnert Park were struck by vehicles Monday, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The boy was riding against traffic west on the River Road overpass at U.S. Highway 101 when he was struck by a Toyota that was turning right on the on-ramp to southbound U.S. Highway 101 around 6 p.m., CHP Officer David deRutte said.

He was not wearing a helmet and was taken to the Charles M. Schulz Sonoma County Airport, then flown in the Sonoma County sheriff's helicopter to UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital in Oakland, deRutte said.

The Cotati man who was driving the Toyota stopped at the scene and he was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs, deRutte said.

Separately, a woman, who is believed to be a transient, was struck by a Nissan pickup truck as she walked on the west side of Roberts Lake Road near northbound Highway 101 around 7:50 p.m., deRutte said.

She suffered major injuries and was taken to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, and deRutte said she did not have any identification.

The man who was driving the Nissan remained at the scene, deRutte said.
