City Of Rohnert Park Cancels 4th Of July Fireworks Show For 2021

ROHNERT PARK, CA — The city of Rohnert Park reminded residents that the Rohnert Park City Council voted June 8 to cancel the 4th of July Fireworks Drive-In Spectacular that was scheduled from 7 p.m.-9 p.m. Sunday, July 4, at SOMO Village.

"The show was intended to provide a family-oriented event in light of the city’s initial ban on the sale of fireworks," the Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety said. "However, residents submitted a petition removing the ban and requiring the issue be put to voters, so fireworks may be sold in Rohnert Park this year."

Further, police said, the Council "heard from numerous residents concerned with the safety of the fireworks show. We understand this will disappoint those who were planning to attend. We look forward to the next event where we can gather and celebrate together as a community."

When Do Safe And Sane Fireworks Go On Sale In Rohnert Park?

Rohnert Park Police Chief Timothy Mattos addressed that and other questions in a live chat Tuesday night.

According to Mattos, the sale of "safe and sane" fireworks in the city of Rohnert Park starts at 8 a.m. Wednesday, June 30, and is permitted to continue until 9 p.m. Sunday, July 4.

"Safe and sane" fireworks labeled with the state Fire Marshall's seal can be used 8 - 10:30 p.m. daily, Friday, July 2, through Sunday, July 4, anywhere in the city of Rohnert Park except for commercial parking lots. Illegal fireworks can not be lit off anywhere in the city, Mattos said.
