Driver Killed In Crash Near ​Sebastopol​ Identified

Maurilio Vasquez-Heraz, 30, died in a solo vehicle crash near Sebastopol early Saturday morning.

SONOMA COUNTY, CA — The Sonoma County Sheriff's Office has identified a driver who died in a solo vehicle crash near Sebastopol early Saturday morning as Maurilio Vasquez-Heraz, 30, of Santa Rosa.

Vasquez-Heraz was driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee west on state Highway 116 east of Cooper Road around 4:25 a.m. when the Jeep veered off the road into a dirt embankment and struck a wooden utility pole, California Highway Patrol Office David deRutte said.

The Jeep continued traveling on the road shoulder and Vasquez-Heraz was ejected when the Jeep flipped several times. He died while being taken to a hospital, deRutte said.

The crash closed Highway 116 due to power lines on the road, DeRutte said.
