Fire Crews Thanked With Free Burritos & Mango Lassis In North Bay

The Bay Area-based, eclectic "Curry Up Now" restaurant parked its food truck in Petaluma and served lunch to local firefighters & police.

PETALUMA, CA — Firefighters battling the LNU Lightning Complex fires in the North Bay, along with local police and emergency-operation crews, were treated Thursday to free lunches of burritos and lassis in Petaluma, courtesy of the South San Francisco-based, Indian restaurant chain Curry Up Now.

"We want to serve those who are on the frontlines protecting our communities, our homes, our forests and our families," said Curry Up Now's food truck manager, Josh Yazzie. "Giving away Tikka Masala burritos and mango lassis is the least we can do for those that are protecting all of us."

Nearly 100 first-responders were served from the corporation's food truck, that parked at 11 a.m. at the Petaluma Fire Department on D Street, Yazzie said.

"Josh and his amazing team have made this generous food contribution three years in a row when our county has experienced wild fire disasters," the Petaluma Police Department said, thanking the food truck crew on behalf of Cal Fire and Petaluma fire personnel. "Thank you for the support and nourishment needed to ensure our first responders carry on!"

Curry Up Now, launched more than a decade ago with a husband-and-wife-run food truck in Burlingame, now has multiple sites and ranks among the nation's fastest growing, Indian fast-casual chains. The business, featured earlier this year in a Netflix episode of "Ugly Delicious," is renown for its Tikka Masala Burritos, Deconstructed Samosas, Sexy Fries and Naughty Naan, plus tacos, bowls, traditional dishes and street-food snacks.
