SANTA ROSA, CA — Have a holiday drink and let Starbucks pick up the tab. That is the idea behind the popular coffee chain's latest promotion featuring more than 1,000 "pop-up parties" slated through the end of the year at select stores across the nation.

On the list for a party Saturday, Dec. 28 is the Starbucks store at 1385 Santa Rosa Ave. — near Flowers Avenue — in Santa Rosa, according to the company.

Here's how it works: Each day for five days, more than 200 locations will be chosen to offer the promotion. Customers can check the list daily on the pop-up party site to see the next day's participating stores. And patrons have to visit during the one-hour window of the "party," from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. local time, to get a complimentary beverage.

"Customers who visit a participating store will receive a free tall handcrafted espresso beverage of their choice, hot or iced, including Peppermint Mochas, Iced Toasted White Chocolate Mochas, lattes, macchiatos and more (one per customer)," Starbucks representatives said in a news release.

The promotion runs Friday, Dec. 27 through Tuesday, Dec. 31.
